David was born at 8.30am on Friday 20th February 1987 in the Princess Mary Maternity Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, weighing in at 9lb 4oz.. He was a real smiler, who easily won the hearts of everyone who knew him. He had a wicked sense of humour, loved to laugh and joke. Even as a young child he loved to make people laugh. He loved life to the full, squeezing as much into his days as he could. He tried anything and everything, a very active child who must have tried most sports at one time or another. At 4 he started Cragside School in Cramlington, meeting the children who were to remain his friends throughout his life. At 14 he won a place to play in a charity football match at St. James Park, home of our beloved Newcastle United. He said walking into the home dressing room and seeing his name on a Toon shirt was the best feeling ever. It was one of his dreams come true. And seeing him come out of the tunnel onto the pitch was one of my proudest moments. At 15 one of his best friends was murdered just a short distance from her home, but somehow he grew strong and supported his friends when they were hurting even though he was hurting too. 10 short months later David was killed by a drunk driver on Christmas Eve 2003 whilst delivering Christmas cards and presents to his friends. He was 16 years, 10 months, 4 days old.
David, my son, my best friend, my treasure. I miss the smiles, the cuddles, the cheeky grin, the noise. You were a very special lad with a loving, caring nature and a heart of gold. You were my strength, my joy, my best friend, my baby. I will love and miss you forever, your loving mum, Chris xx
